The OH Club

About the OH Club

The Old Herefordians’ Club has now been in existence for over a century and has a membership in excess of 4000. Former pupils of the Cathedral School who leave at the normal age, and whose membership subscription has been fully paid, automatically become an Old Herefordian (OH)

All members are entitled to wear the club tie, cravat and/or scarf, made up of the traditional navy blue and gold of the school colours interspersed with a diagonal white strip.

The Club informs all its members from time to time about matters of common interest concerning the School. It manages its own funds and is run on a not for profit basis. Any excess of income over expenditure is used to further the stated Club objectives.  Your OHC could for example launch appeals for the benefit of the School and may apply some of its assets to fund in-school projects.

In fact, OHs will be proud to know that the construction of the new Sports Hall complex, opened in 2009 by Dame Kelly Holmes, DBE was part funded by the Club. The OH Trustees may even provide bursaries, award special prizes or offer help in any other way that they believe will be for the good of all Cathedral School students.

Your Club always stages an annual reunion at the School on the first Saturday in December.  All club members are cordially invited to attend this all-day event, which usually commences at 9.30am with a chess match inside No.1, Castle Street between a team of current students versus OHs.  The OHC AGM also takes place mid-morning and, after a sherry reception in the Old Deanery, all guests who have pre-booked a seat are invited to partake of a delicious Christmas lunch in the Dining Hall.

Sports matches

There is a Netball game in the Sports Hall around 10.30am when a School 7 take on the OHs. Later there’s mixed hockey at the Hereford Leisure Centre – KO 12 Noon.  In the afternoon the now traditional OH vs. HCS rugby match kicks off down on Wyeside at 2.30pm.  Before that there is football at 2pm.WyesideWyeside 2

To round off the day, an informal buffet or sit-down meal is usually organised at the Castle House Hotel, commencing at 7pm, to which partners and friends are welcome.   A full programme all about this important reunion can be obtained by contacting the Development Office, Old Deanery, Cathedral Close, Hereford HR1 2NG.  Telephone 01432 363590

The OHC derives its main source of revenue from students whose parents pay an annual subscription whilst their child is still at school.  It is important therefore that the Club continues to thrive through the support of its future membership, on whose contributions the Club now largely depends.
