We were delighted to welcome back Headmaster Paul Smith BSc., to this his second visit to an OHiL lunchtime event here in the Capital.
This reunion represented the 52nd occasion on which we have staged an OHiL event in London since the start of these casual pub gatherings back in June 2003. Our Annual Spring Luncheon was thus held once more at Doggett’s Coat & Badge beside the Thames on Thursday 19th May 2016.
Attended by a total of 38 people, most of us were able to take full advantage of the warm conditions and wander outside onto the open-air balcony to eat our meal. Before the buffet was served however, we organised an external photo-shoot featuring as many people as possible. As can be seen from this image below, it became a bit cramped trying to squeeze everyone into one corner of the small terrace!
A proposal to re-introduce boarders at HCS?
While guests returned to the bar to collect a dessert of fresh strawberries, raspberries & cream, we invited the Headmaster to say a few words about the school. He covered some interesting topics and news about his students and spoke about a new initiative. Subject to adequate funding, acquisition of suitable premises and full approval by the Governors, Hereford Cathedral School is considering the idea of bringing back boarders for the first time in over 40 years.
At the end of the function, joint organisers Ian Harwood and Peter Fairman-Bourn thanked everyone for coming and invited members to re-convene on Thursday 20th October 2016 when the next OHiL meeting will take place at the same venue overlooking the river.
