Books for sale at 2018 Autumn Luncheon

We once more held a lunchtime reunion at our usual venue, Doggett’s Coat & Badge, SE1 upstairs in the Terrace Bar with its external balcony overlooking the Thames.  Because the weather was very mild, several members took to the open air to chat and eat their meal, hence we all gathered outside later to have another group photograph taken.

We were delighted to welcome for the first time former Headmaster Howard Tomlinson (1987 – 2005) as a special guest to this the thirteenth lunch we’ve staged this time of year.  In fact this particular gathering of OHs represented reunion number FIFTY NINE (includes 2 Dinners and many quiet evening meetings in a Fullers City pub) since we started OHiL back in 2003.

We invited Howard to say a few words before the food was served and, having brought with him several copies of his book, A History of HCS, he seized the opportunity to sell some!  He also drew our attention to the forthcoming commemoration service taking place inside Hereford Cathedral on Thursday 8th November 2018 which will mark the 100th Anniversary of the Armistice, ending hostilities on the Western Front on 11/11/1918.   At least 70 or more OHs sadly fell during the conflict and their names now feature on a plaque to be unveiled in the Lady Chapel.

Guest List.  Please click on link to find out who else was present at the gathering.  In particular, David Bland (83) had just completed another fund raising feat by jumping out of a plane over in South Island, New Zealand, hence he brought with him a video to show us.  Also present was Duncan Pierce (School Hse 1955 – 1962) who kindly donated his latest book to the School, being a Who’s Who compendium listing former rugby players who have represented Wales as internationals.

As usual, several members stayed on at the pub after the function ended around 4pm to ‘bat on‘ as one cricketing OH always says!!
