TENTH ANNUAL OHiL AUTUMN LUNCHEON
We held our final informal reunion of 2015 at Doggett’s Coat & Badge, Blackfriars, SE1 on Thursday 22nd October which was attended by 43 OHs, 1 former teacher and 5 guests.
This lunchtime event represented the tenth year running that we’ve staged a meeting at this particular pub during the autumn period.
Over half of the members present this time were from the 1950’s era, with 14 having joined HCS during the preceding decade. We were delighted however to welcome 3 gentlemen from the 1970’s, two of whom were attending this their first OHiL casual gathering. They agreed to persuade more of their contemporaries to come along to the next lunchtime event.(* See below) Also present was one OH from the 1980’s, whereas the youngest only left HCS just before the start of the new Millennium.
We were pleased to see the return of former language master Alan J. Moorse BA., Cantab, who was accompanied again by his wife Anne. This is the third time they have attended an OHiL event in as many years. AJM taught at HCS for nearly 11 years and was a Housemaster in School House. He left in 1963 to take up another teaching post at the Duke of York’s Royal Military School in Dover, Kent. Alan told us that he reached the lofty age of 90 earlier in the year so there was something to celebrate at this reunion!
A Leavers Anniversary?
Speaking of celebrations and significant dates, there were at least five members present at this reunion who left HCS for the last time in 1955. As a result, this function was rather special for them because it became an excuse to mark exactly SIXTY years since they all became Old Herefordians for the first time.
The photograph opposite shows a group shot of most of the guests who attended this event. However, anyone wishing to check out all the names, a list can be found by clicking on this link.
(*) THE NEXT LUNCHEON? Notice to all OHs and their guests. If you would like to join us at the next casual pub gathering here in Town, we shall be returning to the same riverside ale house on THURSDAY 19th MAY 2016. Weather permitting, you’ll be able to take full advantage of the open-air balcony not only to enjoy panoramic views across the Thames but to also partake of some fresh Herefordshire grown strawberries with cream as you take in the scenery.
